Harney Relative Collectors

The Harney Relative Collectors would like to offer their condolences to the family of Judith Reed, one of the founding members of the group. Judith was always ready to share genealogical materials, experiences, and knowledge. Judith passed away in September of lung cancer, and will be greatly missed.

Beginning in January 2007 Harney Relative Collectors will meet on the second Saturday of each month.

The Harney Relative Collectors meet every second Saturday at the Library from 9:30 to 11:00 am. The Harney Relative Collectors are a genealogy support group for Harney County.

December 15 - No meeting

January 13 - "How to Identify and Date Old Photographs, Part 1" video and discussion

February 10 - "How to Identify and Date Old Photographs, Part 2" video and discussion

March 10 - Records at Risk - How to preserve irreplaceable records

April 14 - Family Records - How these records bring our ancestors to life

May 12 - Compiled Records - Identifies different types

June 9 - Technology use in genealogy - How the internet can find family connections

July - No Meeting

August 11 - Vital Records - How vital records can link generations

September 8 - Religious Records - How to determine an ancestor's religious affiliation and review of records

October 13 - Cemetery Records - What to look for and how to transcribe headstones

November 10 - Census Records - Provides instructions in how to place your ancestor in history using these records

 

Entry to these meetings is through the back door of the library.

Meetings typically last 60 - 90 minutes and computers are available for use after the meeting.
