We're now FINE FREE! Harney County Library will no longer charge late fines, eliminating a barrier to access and ensuring that all people in this community can enjoy the resources and programs the library has to offer, which is our primary purpose as a public library.
It's good for our community. Our community is stronger when people have access to the library collections, services, programs, and materials that they need to pursue their family, life, career, and personal goals. We hope patrons who may have stopped using the library due to fines on their accounts will return to their library.
Late fines are not effective. There is no significant difference in return rates for libraries charging fines and those that do not.
