Social Media Policy
Harney County Library participates in social media to reach out to our patrons, promote services, engage library users and carry out the library's greater mission statement. It also serves to expand the Library’s connection with the community.
Social media is defined as any web application, site or account offered by the library that facilitates the sharing of opinions and information about library related subjects and issues. This includes such formats as blogs, websites, or social network pages.
Users of library social media should be aware that all third party sites, such as Facebook and Instagram have their own privacy policies and should proceed accordingly. Staff will report violations of host provider’s terms of use and remove comments in violation of this policy.
Harney County Library reserves the right to monitor content on all of its social media sites and to remove messages or postings containing the following:
Violation of this policy may result in warnings or exclusions from posting any further messages to Harney County Library social networking sites. Complaints or negative comments should not be deleted but should be engaged like any other patron complaint. Staff may move the discussion to a private venue such as email.
Harney County Library reserves the right to edit or modify postings or comments for space and content, while retaining the intent of the original post. The library reserves the right to reproduce comments, posts, and messages in other public venues.
The library is not responsible for the content of posts made by third parties, including customers, reviewers, advertisers, etc. Public posts by third parties do not reflect the positions of the library, its employees, or Harney County. Comments to County social media pages are considered public record and subject to public disclosure laws.

- Personal attacks, insults, or threatening language
- Endorsements of specific brand name products or services for advertising or marketing purposes, including political or religious advertisements or endorsements
- Copyright violations
- Off topic comments
- Duplicated posts from the same individual
